A grandfather and his very polite grandson came for lunch. The older man didn't want a jacket spud because of his dentures. He had the "mildly curried parsnip" soup instead. Naming soup is quite fun, but obviously I haven't got the hang of it yet.
The Environmental Health Officer is coming tomorrow morning. On April Fools Day.
You couldn't make it up.

Bread and Water
It rained again today. A lot.
And it rained in in the conservatory. A bit.
A leak from the water boiler rendered half of the Earl Grey tagged tea bags useless and I have clearly over-ordered on the bread again.
I'm becoming obsessed with the long-range weather forecast. Maybe that's the key to getting the bread order right.

Inglorious Mud
A grim, rainy Monday when 3 adults, 7 kids and a dog came for lunch. Not one of them a coeliac.
On the plus side the low figures meant I managed to balance the till for the first time.

Sunday - mallow madness
Those tiny marshmallows I'm putting on kids' hot chocolate are going down a storm.
Into the stomachs of the teenage staff.
I haven't actually served any to customers yet. And still no sign of a coeliac.

Saturday - a light dusting of pressure
So how was the first real day? Well, the pool of water on the carpet, caused by overzealous watering in the conservatory had dried up overnight. It's unorthodox to greet customers with wet tea-towels on the floor as we had on Friday. There's also a smaller pool of water under the new coffee machine....hmm. A couple of families had heard Simon Mayo mention us on his Radio 2 show and we ran out of jacket spuds. Not one coeliac has entered the premises to try our specially ordered cake. If they don't come today I'll have to eat it.

The First Day - soft launch
The place is spotless, and there were plenty of lovely comments about the bunting. Was rather overstaffed, as Freda, Mary, Becky and Sara wanted to practise using the new coffee machine before the weekend. How do you make mocha?
I had no idea how much bread to order so plucked a number from the sky and ended up with way too much. Here's hoping people want a nicely toasted tea cake tomorrow...
